Mendel Biotechnology

During the next 20 years, with an expanding global population, improved diets and rapidly growing demands for renewable energy, society will need to produce more and better food, feed, fiber, and energy without large increases in production acreage. With the growth of energy production from agricultural feedstocks, agricultural and energy supply chains serving the needs of a growing carbohydrate economy are expected to become integrated. Mendel Biotechnology's vision is that our knowledge about regulation of plant gene and pathway function will enable accelerated improvement in plant varieties, and the delivery of associated products and services, to meet global agricultural and energy production needs.

Mendel is dedicated to being a premier plant sciences company serving large agricultural companies with new genetic and chemical solutions and to becoming the leading seed company serving the bioenergy industry. We have collaborations with important players in our major business segments: Monsanto in genetics; BP in bioenergy crops; Bayer in chemistry.

LABORATOIRE SISVITA BIOTECH presents the SISVITA® process on a worldwide scale, following biometric, microbial and enzymatic principles which, without the use of conventional energy, bio-transforms vinasse (wine dregs, also known as ‘nasty wine’) into BIOMIEL SISVITA®, rich in fermentable sugars. This is then reincorporated as a raw material into the traditional process of alcohol distillation, obtaining results of 13% (a potential 34%) of additional ethanol per litre of alcohol produced.

The bioprocess, tested by the Department of Research and Development of a leading company in the sector, is beginning to be employed by the leading distilleries in innovation in a number of countries.

Bioenergy Deployment Consortium’s (BDC)

Bioenergy Deployment Consortium’s (BDC) mission is to build private and public institutional readiness to participate in the U.S. bio-economy with the focus on deployment of developed technologies. To achieve this mission, BDC's strategy is to keep industry abreast of the latest pertinent technology and government policy, while educating members of the energy industry, its nationwide partners, government officials, and interested members of the general public about the potential for the nation of producing bio-chemicals, biofuels and bio-power, improving energy efficiency and energy sustainability while reducing Green House Gas emissions. Three BDC member companies have been awarded $70 million in grants from DOE for their integrated forest biorefineries and energy efficiency projects.
